DSC06648Note: Before you read this, you might want to find out How to Read, "How To Train Your Dragon".

You're right. How to Train Your Dragon might be good, but is it good for your children to read if your desire is to have them grow up in a home characterised by Christian values?

Well, there are a number of reasons you may have some reservations, or even downright objections to your kids picking up these books. And there are some good reasons for your kids to get lost in them. So this is how we'll do it. First, the bad. Then, the good. Then decision time for you and yours.

FLASHBACK: So Jesus really does matter? Part 2

I'm not sure when this series of posts were originally written, but I suspect around 2006. It addresses the tension between pursuing doctrinal truth within a church and uniting around Jesus - a tension I am not sure I have been able to maintain to my satisfaction. Anyway, having posted Part 1, here is So Jesus really does matter? Part 2.

In part one I came to the conclusion that as long as Jesus and the gospel are paramount in a movement, God will honour it, despite it's failings. If this is true, How are we to respond today?

Once upon a time there was a Princess called Princess Lucy. She lived in a castle with her father, the King, and her mother, the Queen.

One day, Princess Lucy’s friend, Prince Tease-a-lot (‘T’ for short) came to play. After a good morning of playing and having fun, Princess Lucy and Prince T sat down for a rest.

“What would say if I took you to a ball tomorrow?” asked Prince T.

“A ball?” said Princess Lucy. “Where?”

“Well, that’s a secret,” said Prince T. “If you want to come, I’ll show you tomorrow.”

LoveHeart

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NIV)

Once there was a town called Blowin. Why was it called Blowin? It was called Blowin because the wind in that town was always blowing! Lots of people went to live in the town and found it all too much and moved away again, but other people just loved it and they were the ones who stayed. The people of Blowin absolutely loved the wind. They loved the way it messed up their hair. They loved the way it blew the trees. They loved the way they had to lean into the wind at a 45 degree angle just to walk up the main street. As far as they were concerned, Blowin was paradise.

One day, however, the wind stopped blowing.
