Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (NIV)

Over the last few months, we have looked at a passage that tells us some of the many characteristics of love: it is patient and kind, it does not envy or boast, it is not proud or rude or self-seeking or easily angered. It doesn’t keep a record of wrongs and doesn’t delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

And that’s not all. Verse 7-8a goes on to tell us that love always protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres, and that it never fails.

We might look at this list and get discouraged. How on earth are we to exemplify all that? This is where a favourite verse of mine comes in.

Some worthwhile quotes from this article written in 2003 about a Swiss study published in 2000. However much patriarchy is hated, the picture that very liberal country gives is that patriarchy is more than a learned societal structure.

If both father and mother attend church regularly...
- 33 percent of their children will end up as regular churchgoers
- 41 percent will end up attending irregularly.
- a quarter of their children will end up not practicing at all.

BUT...

Love Loves Honestly.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (NIV)

Ned entered the doctor’s office. “Hi Doc! How’re you going?”

“Hey, Ned,” said the doctor, “good to see you. How’s the old golf swing?”

“Not bad, Doc. Slowed down a bit due to this pain in my shoulder, but I’m still getting around the golf course.”

Good, good,” his doctor said, nodding, “as long as you’re still swinging.

31 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. (Matthew 12:31-32- ESV)

Wifey has asked me to post something about these verses after they were discussed at a Bible Study she attended this morning. Dutifully, I am now doing so. My only problem is that, while I'm happy with my general understanding of this verses, I don't think I've plumbed the depths of it. Feel free, anyone, to add your own understandings in the comment section.

One thing I do know for sure, however: this is not talking about using the Spirit as a swear word! (Just thought I'd head that one off at the pass).
