RIP Bounded Irrationality.
It seems that the extended silence on Doug’s blog Bounded Irrationality was not the silence before a storm of posts unleashed on the blogosphere, but instead was the silence of a man who doesn’t have time to waste on a blog anymore.
Yes, Bounded Irrationality is no more.
Doug is perhaps the only person close to traditional Lutheran I know and I enjoyed his insights. I hope he still pops his head in here from time to time, but without a blog of his own his foray’s into the world of blogging - even as just a reader - may die out as well. We’ll see.

Who I’m married to, who I father…is that all I am?
At The Gospel-Driven Church Jared Wilson has on his sidebar the common “About Me” section, which says this:

Who believed the earth was flat?
According to popular thinking, the Middle Ages was a period of ignorance, often represented by the supposition that people thought the earth was flat. (Ever hear the contemporary phrase “flat earth thinking”?)
It turns out that is a myth. Continue Reading »

Eyes for Lies.
Added this link to a website of a lady who is a human lie detector. A “natural” if you watch the TV programme Lie to Me. (Note: there are some comments about “naturals” on that programme that are not true eg. that they are not educated. Eyes for Lies has a Masters degree, and she says the other naturals she is aware of do as well).
Most of the things she writes about are American and not particularly well known here, but she has some really interesting posts on how to detect lies. Have a look.

Wow, I’m negative! (and I thought I was pretty neutral).
I’m at an internet cafe and accessed this blog through Google. On the way, I found this page listed. It seems one of my posts on gay marriage registered on this site - in a negative way.

My wonderful family.
I’m very grateful for my wife and daughter and child on the way.
Families truly are a wonderful invention.

I’ve been playing around with the link categories again, but have to go out. So, they’re sort of a mess right now. Hope you can cope.

Avoid this petrol station.
The Caltex Station on the corner of Gatton Street and Aumuller Street consistently sells petrol at least 2c more expensive than other stations. DON’T BE FOOLED!!! Avoid it.

New Aussie Theo-Blog.
Tony Payne of Matthias Media has got a group of Moore Theological College graduates and begun a blog. He has outlined what they are wanting to do.
I’ve added The Sola Panel to the sidebar. We’ll see how it goes.

John Williamson: Singer, songwriter, stealer.
Okay, for all you John Williamson junkies out there, the title is tongue-in-cheek. The reason I can accuse John Williamson of intellectual theft is because he has a new song called “The Kiwi and the Emu”.
That’s our name! (Stealer!)
I mean, think about it. No one says “The Kiwi and the emu”. They say, “The Kiwi and the Aussie” or “The Kiwi and the kangaroo”. No, he read it here and stole it without even an “if you please”.
How much do you reckon I can sue him for?

Not impressed, Hewlett Packard.
I’ve just got off the phone to Hewlett Packard customer service.
We bought a printer last December. On the whole it’s been a good buy, but not long ago it just wouldn’t turn on. So, after a bit of a search on the site, I found a number to ring, dialed, and waited in the queue for 20 minutes or so, to be answered by someone in America who told me I had the wrong number (yes, probably my fault)…
I rang the other number and got through pretty quickly. After explaining the problem to the Asian person who took the call and giving my details for the purposes of warranty, it appeared that I didn’t have a “phone service warranty”, I only had an “email service warranty”. The lady on the other end of the phone would not help me - I had to email.
So, I emailed. The person who replied was the most helpful of all. I was given a list of things to try from the blatantly obvious to the more sublime. The problem was blatantly obvious - the external power unit was not working. I wrote back asking for a replacement, only to be informed that I was talking to the wrong people:
we at e-mail service are not authorized to create shipment for the parts we can only provide technical support.
So, I called the number I was given and organised with the Asian person who answered to be sent a new external power unit. However, they would only send me the unit and the cord from the unit to the printer. They would not replace the cord from the unit to the wall.
“What if that is where the problem is?” I asked.
Apparently because those cords are so readily available, HP doesn’t supply them. But doesn’t that totally miss the point? We have bought a printer complete with external power unit and cord to the wall, only to find less than 6 months later the power unit doesn’t work. If the problem is with the cord connecting the power unit to the wall, the fault is still with the HP product. Why should we have to pay for their faulty equipment just because I can buy it down the road? I can buy another printer down the road. Does Hewlett Packard want me to do that too?
And where is our money from the pay back deal we put in for???
And why can’t I talk to an Australian when I ring them?
Not impressed, HP, not impressed.

Are We Living in the Times of Judges?
Now this applies really only to the Protestant Church. (The Catholic might well be considered to live in the times of Kings!) But this is what I mean by the title.
- Throughout Church history, different Christian groups have existed, each doing what they thought was right. (Judges 17:6)
- During that time, God has raised up different, often very imperfect, leaders to revive the Church. (Judges 3:9, 3:15, 10:12)
- The Church always goes astray. (Judges 10:11-13)
- It will be this way until the king returns. (Judges 21:25)

tohu va bohu.
That’s one of my aliases. Apparently. At least, according to this entry on what looks like a completely random computer maintained blog.
Ahh, with a little googling, I discover that I have been mixed up with another blog that is actually called tohu va bohu and is a transliteration of the Hebrew in Genesis 1 that means in English “without form and void”.
Curious way to describe your blog. Still, it seems that the latest post written there isn’t “without form and void”, so perhaps they’ll need to change the name soon.

Finally, we got the Simpson Movie out on DVD last night.
Gotta love that Spiderpig song!
And the theme music written using it later in the movie. Classic.

Next Christian Carnival and prayer request.
Just visited Bounded Irrationality, the website where the next Christian Carnival will be held. I’ve been there a couple of times before to read Starving Econ Grad’s contribution to the Christian Carnival, but just found this post requesting prayer about the possibility that he may have lymphoma, and the next on the first round of inconclusive tests.
If you have a moment, please pray for SEG and his wife.
